Meatout: Try a Plant-Based Diet for a Day

MeatOut has reached people worldwide for nearly forty years through educational events, government proclamations, and plant-based food samples. MeatOut was created in 1985 by Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM), the first animal rights organization in the nation, to educate people on the health advantages and environmental benefits of a plant-based diet as well as the impact on animals farmed for food.

Spring into Meatout

March 20th is known as the first day of spring, but it is also the day set aside for MeatOut. Advocates from all 50 states plus 24 other countries take this day to offer educational events, promote plant-based eating, and encourage and challenge everyone around the world to forego meat for just one day. If the world were to skip meat for one day, thousands of innocent lives would be saved. The added bonus is that a fraction of the participants may decide they could live without meat for one more day or perhaps even the rest of their lives. More and more people across the globe are switching to plant-based diets. Health and environmental concerns and issues regarding animal welfare are significant motivators.

Meatout Plus One

Taking the Meatout Plus One challenge for MeatOut Day on March 20th is the perfect opportunity to invite a friend to join you in trying a plant-based diet without any pressure. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3! You and one friend can pledge to one day of eating vegan meals, share the experience, and enjoy delicious plant-based food. To participate, plan to have three vegan meals throughout the day. You can start with a vegan breakfast, try a new vegan restaurant for lunch, and cook a delicious vegan dinner together at one of your homes. This event is a great way to introduce someone to plant-based eating and show them how easy and enjoyable it can be. So invite a friend to join you for Meatout Plus One and help them take the first step towards a more plant-based lifestyle.

MeatOut Proclamations

Among the cities participating in MeatOut this year are New York City and Washington, DC. New York City’s mayor, Eric Adams, recently proclaimed March 20 MeatOut Day in the Big Apple. New York’s 8 million residents are encouraged to take part by skipping the meat for one day. That is potentially millions of saved lives from New York alone. About a week after New York City’s proclamation, Washington DC’s mayor, Muriel Bowser, also issued a MeatOut Day proclamation. These two major cities will join Dallas, TX, Madison, WI, Colorado Springs, CO, Santa Fe, NM, and Burlington, Ontario, on March 20 to spread awareness and save countless lives.

Is your city participating in MeatOut on March 20? Encourage your mayor to join New York City, Washington DC, and many other cities nationwide in making the MeatOut proclamation for MeatOut 2024. Let us know in the comments how your city is celebrating MeatOut Day.
