The Ultimate Vegan-Friendly Oreo Guide Featuring Every Plant-Based Flavor, Product, and Collaboration
Oreo’s have long been a favorite accidentally vegan treat. The makers did not purposely plan to make an entirely plant-based treat. It just so happened that all the selected ingredients turned out to be free of any animal products. This makes Oreo’s a perfect sweet for compassionate snack lovers. Year after year the recipe has stayed almost the same, so the cookie you eat today tastes like the one your grandparents enjoyed, except now we indulge with oat milk instead. Over the years the company has added new shapes, colors, and fillings, and most of those are still vegan-friendly. This guide will show you which ones to grab and which ones to leave on the shelf.
Oreo and Reese’s Collaboration
Oreo’s latest team-up blends the classic Oreo with Reese’s, a brand that launched vegan peanut butter cups in 2023. The new cookie layers the famous chocolate wafer with Reese’s vegan peanut butter sauce and little chocolate crumbles. The filling is smooth and salty, just like the inside of a peanut butter cup, while the cookie adds a deep cocoa crunch.
The company shared the news in August: “The rumors are true. The Reese’s and Oreo brands are answering fans’ call to collaborate and unite their iconic flavors with not one, but two new products for fans to enjoy.” Stores sold out in many towns within the first week, and fans are still posting photos of empty shelves on social media. The second product mentioned is a Reese’s Oreo Cup, but steer clear because that one unfortunately contains milk.
Michelle Deignan, Vice President of Oreo US, added, “As a 110+ year-old brand, we’re constantly looking for ways to disrupt the snacking market. What better way to show our fans we listen to their evolving snacking needs than to partner with the Reese’s brand to deliver the collab of their dreams.” The new Oreo Reese’s cookies are currently available at major retailers while supplies last. They are expected to become a part of Oreo’s permanent lineup by 2026.
Limited-Time Vegan Oreo Flavors for Fall and Beyond
Oreo currently has two more limited-time flavors just in time for fall. Apple Pie a la Mode features Oreo’s vanilla cookies. The creme has the flavors of vanilla ice cream and apple pie. Their Boo Halloween cookies have also returned for a while. These have the same sweet and creamy taste as original Oreos but offer a fun Halloween orange color. Both delicious flavors are made with no milk. In addition to these two, you can also find Blueberry Pie Oreos, vanilla cookies with blueberry pie-flavored filling, which came back in the summer, and the Selena Gomez collaboration, a dairy-free Horchata cookie.
Original Oreos are not the only Oreo variety to be accidentally vegan. Many of their other flavors are also vegan. Specific flavors may only be available in select regions, and many, like those mentioned above, are only available for a limited time. The following are some lists of vegan-friendly Oreo flavors.

The lists above are just a sampling of all the flavors Oreo has to offer. Their production list is quite extensive, and the company is constantly developing new flavor profiles. New or limited-edition flavors may or may not be vegan, so it is always wise to double-check the ingredients label just in case.
While many Oreo flavors are vegan, cross-contamination is still one thing to consider. The majority of Oreo products only contain plant-based ingredients, but some may be manufactured using shared equipment, which could lead to cross-contamination. The company has this to say.
“Many Oreo products are suitable for vegans, but may include cross-contaminants of milk, so please check allergen advice.” This could pose a potential problem for those with severe dairy allergies as well as strict vegans. Once again, reading labels is key.
Here are just a few Oreo products that contain milk. They include:
- Cakesters
- Fudge Covered
- Holiday Cookie Houses
- Mint Fudge Covered
- Thin Bites Fudge Dipped
- Thin Bites White Fudge Dipped
