Vegan Eats at Universal Halloween Horror Nights 2024

Discover the Best Vegan Food at Halloween Horror Nights 2024

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios has been named the Best Halloween Event by Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket Awards for 14 years, and there is a good reason for that honor. Universal never disappoints with its scary, immersive event and unique, themed foods. This year, Halloween Horror Nights hosts 10 haunted houses and 5 scare zones that transport you to terrifying worlds.

Vegan-Friendly Eats at Halloween Horror Nights 2024

We love attending Halloween Horror Nights every year to experience the frightening houses, scare zones, and spooky atmosphere. But there is something that we enjoy even more than the scares and thrills. Universal offers many vegan-friendly food options that we are excited to try every year. We had a great time taste-testing this year’s vegan offerings. Here are our impressions of the vegan selections at Halloween Horror Nights this year.

Goblin’s Feast: Vegan Dishes to Try

After you walk through the goblin village where goblins, witches, hobgoblins, and orcs await their grisly dinner, slip over to Portofino Bridge near Springfield: Home of the Simpsons to participate in the Goblin’s Feast. Here, you can try two gory selections that all the creatures love.

Pumpkin Guts: A Plant-Based Delight or Disappointment?

Pumpkin Guts are a goblin favorite. Butternut squash and zucchini noodles are topped with pumpkin seeds and vegan butter and served inside an acorn squash. They were served hot and fresh off the grill. We were not impressed by the flavor, however. It tasted bland, with no spices or flavor. The texture was also a little unpalatable. Pumpkin Guts cost $10.49. We gave it 1 out of 5 Bumblebees.

Goblin Pie: Sweet Vegan Treat

The Goblin Pie is a baked mini apple pie topped with cinnamon sugar and drizzled with bloody raspberry jam. It was served super hot. The raspberry jam was very sweet—almost too sweet for us. The apple pie filling tasted like traditional apple pie, and the crust was warm and flaky. It tasted very similar to a McDonald’s apple pie, though. This pie cost $5.99. We gave it 3 out of 5 Bumblebees.

Classic Twisted Taters – A Vegan Staple at Halloween Horror Nights

The Twisted Taters booth in Gramercy Park serves just one thing besides drinks: Twisted Taters. The twisted tater is a staple at Halloween Horror Nights. We have it every year, and while it is tasty, it is the same each year, so we decided to skip it this time. The only vegan topping available is the seasoning salt. Twisted Taters cost $9.99 each. We give them 3 out of 5 Bumblebees.

Insidious: The Further—The Red Door Vegan Handpie

Once you escape the Red-Faced Demon and KeyFace in The Further, make your way to the Music Plaza to replenish your energy. The Red Door is a potato and onion-filled handpie. Its blood-red, flaky crust surrounds a hearty filling that tastes like a stew with curry. Unfortunately, this premade handpie was only lukewarm after sitting under a warming light, which subtracted a lot from the flavor. The Red Door costs $9.49. We gave it 3 out of 5 Bumblebees. This would have been higher if the temperature had been warmer.

Monstrous – The Monsters of Latin America Vegan Options

Be very careful and survive the night with three monsters from Latin America: Tlaheulpuchi, La Lechuza, and El Silbón. Then head to Cafe La Bamba across from Central Park Crepes to try one of the monsters’ favorites.

Heart “Beet” Tostada – A Surprising Vegan Favorite

The Heart “Beet” Tostada is a red beet tartare and hummus with vegan feta and watercress served on a crispy tortilla. We are not usually fans of beets, so we put this one off as long as possible. When we finally decided to give it a try, though, we were pleasantly surprised. This dish was delicious. There was no hint of the usual earthy taste that usually accompanies beets. The ingredients perfectly complemented each other. We will be paying the $7.49 to try this one again. We gave it 5 out of 5 surprising Bumblebees.

Major Sweets Candy Factory – Sweet Vegan Treats Await

What could go wrong on a field trip to the candy factory? You will find out when the tasty candy samples turn into cold-blooded murderers. If you can escape the candy-coated killers, go to Major Sweets Candy Factory in San Francisco for a celebratory treat.

African Lentil and Potato Sambusa Coffin – A Spiced Delight

The African Lentil and Potato Sambusa Coffin has African-spiced lentils and potatoes wrapped in a vegan pie dough. This coffin-shaped pastry was served very hot, so be careful when handling it. The crust was buttery and flaky. The slightly spicy filling tasted of cloves. The Sambusa Coffin costs $8.99. We gave it 4 out of 5 Bumblebees.

Slaughter Sinema 2 – Vegan Walking Taco Review

Visit scenes from classic horror movies at Slaughter Sinema 2, then stop by Carey Drive-in near Animal Actors for some movie snacks. The Vegan Walking Taco has Fritos, vegan chili, vegan sour cream, lettuce, diablo sauce, and vegan cheddar cheese. We were very excited to try this dish because we loved it in previous years, but the recipe was different this year. The smoky-tasting sauce was so sour we could not eat it. The $13.99 Vegan Walking Taco was very disappointing this year. We gave it 2 out of 5 Bumblebees.

DreamWorks Imagination Café – Classic Vegan Pizza Fries

The Dreamworks Imagination Café, formerly KidZone Pizza Co., offers the same delicious dish every year. The Vegan Pizza Fries, topped with marinara sauce, vegan cheese, vegan pepperoni, and vegan sausage crumbles, is one of our yearly favorites. We love this dish every time. The sauce coating the crinkle-cut fries is sweet and tangy, and the vegan sausage and pepperoni are tasty. This treat costs $11.99 and gets 5 out of 5 Bumblebees from us.

Sweet Treats at San Francisco Pastry Co.

The San Francisco Pastry Co. in the Blumhouse scare zone offers several pastries, but it has one special vegan treat in honor of Halloween Horror Nights.

Death by Blondie: A Vegan Chocolate Chip Apple Treat

The Death by Blondie is a vegan chocolate chip spiced apple Blondie with streusel and plant-based caramel. This treat was extremely sweet. It was too gooey, almost like it needed to bake a little longer. If you enjoy eating cookie dough, this blondie is perfect for you. The Death by Blondie costs $5.99. We gave it 4 out of 5 Bumblebees. You can purchase the blondie during regular park hours as well as during Horror Nights. You can also find it in Islands of Adventure at Croissant Moon during regular hours.

Enjoying Vegan Food at Halloween Horror Nights 2024

Halloween Horror Nights is one of our favorite events each year. We had a great time braving the scare zones and tasting the vegan food options. We are always excited to see what tasty vegan treats the creative minds at Universal come up with each year. Halloween Horror Nights runs from August 30 to November 3. Give the new vegan dishes a try, then let us know which ones are your favorite.
